Wyclef Jean has said food and shelter are still desperately needed in earthquake-hit Haiti.

The Haitian-born music artist has been giving his assessment of the relief effort following his latest visit to the country.  He has called for more doctors, water, food and tents as many people are sleeping on the streets.

“These people are living in tents that they are creating, and it’s about to start raining in a couple of weeks,” he said.

“So I think we need some temporary tents throughout all of Haiti that people can harbour in right now because they are sleeping out in the streets.”

“The vibe that I got was very encouraging. People are singing in the streets, kids are smiling.” -Wyclef Jean

His charity Yele Haiti is working on delivering water and cooked meals to those in need. But the former Fugees star said that in spite of their suffering many appear to be in good spirits.

“The vibe that I got was very encouraging. People are singing in the streets, kids are smiling, and as I leave, they are like ‘You’re coming back. You’re coming back, right?’ I say ‘Yeah, I’ll be back next week, definitely.”
